LS-DYNA
Course: Contact Simulation with LS-DYNA
LS-Dyna has very efficient, but also very complex tools for contact modeling. If problems appear in non-linear simulations, the chosen contact modeling is frequently the cause. By identification and prevention of mistakes, the number of costly unsuccesful trials is minimized and the stability of the calculation as well as the quality of the results is increased. The participants get a sound practice of the application areas, possibilities, limitations and exact contact modeling of different contact models in LS-DYNA.
Overview of Contacts
- Stonewalls - rigid walls
- Sliding interfaces - any general contact
- Geometric contact entities - contact with analytically described rigid bodies
Contact Types
- Overview and evaluation of available contact types
- Selection between Surface-to-Surface and Single-Surface-contact
- Characteristics of AUTOMATIC-contacts
- Further development: segment based contact
- Adhesive contacts
Contact Formulations
- Stonewalls - rigid walls
- Contact thickness of shell elements
- Characteristics of contact with beams
- Additional contact with element edges
- Characteristics of contact between solid elements
- Typical contact problems for foams
- Treatment of initial penetrations
- Efficient contact definition
- Typical contact mistakes and their removal

About LS-DYNA
LS-DYNA is a multi-purpose, explicit and implicit FEM program used to analyze linear, non-linear static and dynamic behavior of structures. It is actively developed by the Livermore Software Technology Corporation (LSTC). For more information about LS-DYNA, please click here.
