Simulation in new areas of application

CAE simulation opens untold opportunities and is advancing in more and more areas of application. As a driving force in technical development, CADFEM is actively involved in new areas of application.

This includes joint projects with companies and academic institutions, as well as scientific institutes and taking stakes in companies that work with the groundbreaking opportunities in simulation.

We are currently quite active in supporting simulation for medical topics and geospaces.

CADFEM Medical

Simulation is also growing in significance in medicine and biomechanics. We have assembled our own team of specialists for medical technology to support well-known clients and we are involved in a number of research projects.

With our CADFEM Medical division, we offer a comprehensive portfolio of products and services for biomechanical and patient-specific FEM simulation.

Our specialized team of engineers provides support in a variety of areas of application for the medical industry and to various customers, like implant manufacturers. We work with leading software providers and partner with well-known medical institutions.

Our long-term goal is to provide physicians with simulation technology that allows them to study certain operations in advance and optimize them as needed.

CADFEM is also the publisher of the magazine "caMe - Computer Aided Medical Engineering", caMe provides information with up-to-date technical articles and industry reporting on the areas of application for simulation methods in medicine, the latest advances in technology, and perspectives for the future.

A session on biomechanics will be incorporated into the CADFEM ANSYS Simulation Conference under the name of our technical magazine: caMe – Computer Aided Medical Engineering. 


CADFEM Virtual Cities

How could Berlin look? Can you easily predict scenarios for entire cities or even regions? You can – to simulate earthquakes, floods, or detonations, for example. CADFEM is actively involved here.

Together with virtualcitySYSTEMS, we develop innovative solutions for 2D/3D modelling of geospaces and buildings. As a result, regional, city, and traffic planning can be done more efficiently and effectively.

An example of the wide range of possible uses for simulation in geospaces and cities is also the DETORBA project sponsored by the German Ministry of Research and Education and coordinated by CADFEM, virtualcitySYSTEMS, and the University of Applied Sciences in Munich.

The goal of the project is to develop a process for simulating and analyzing terrorist-motivated bomb attacks in urban areas with previously unseen accuracy.

The areas of use for the process lie in damage analysis and risk evaluation (hazard maps) for exposed infrastructure objects, in city planning, in dimensioning buildings, and assisting in emergency situations.

Evacuation measures taken when bombs from World War II are found can be planned and the consequences of a detonation can be assessed. Simulation of detonations in a city model offers a basis for additional simulations, like high water.
